Introduction
As has been done in previous seasons, the Maccabi AJAX Cricket Club will continue to provide its players, supporters and past players the opportunity to enjoy a meal as part of the Club experience. Whilst in the past these meals have not been Kosher, this is an issue that as a Club, the committee and past players felt needed to be addressed as we entered season 2007/08.
The Club understands that predominately, the players are not concerned about the kosher status of the food served. However, the club is also aware of a significant increase amongst the players and coaches that have made the commitment to maintaining a kosher home and kosher dietary practises. As a Jewish Club, kosher functions should be the standard across the board to cater appropriately for the growing number of religious players and secular players equally.
The Club is very supportive of the Sunday team and encourages the more religious players to participate in all areas of the Club’s activities. As participation rates from the religious communities have increased at the Maccabi Ajax Juniors CC, we look to encourage these young cricketers to continue on and play at a higher level whilst not compromising their beliefs.
Cricket at all levels requires the home team to provide lunch (afternoon tea) for both teams and the umpires. The tea break provides teams with the opportunity to relax and share a meal as friends, not foes, as on the field. This break is a very social part of the game, and a time when both teams and umpires can interact and share stories and experiences. For Maccabi AJAX it also facilitates the breaking down of cultural, social and political barriers that exist in society, with obvious benefits to the community. For many of our opponents, this may be the first or only opportunity they meet with Jewish people.
The Cricket Club would like to build a reputation as a club that provides a reasonable tea for all players, opposition teams and umpires, but foremost, a club where all Jewish players know their dietary requirements are met and respected at least at all home games. With thanks to sponsorship we are now well on our way to achieving this!
Due to the support and generous sponsorship provided by our kosher sponsors as well as the community at large we are now able to ensure that all lunches provided will be made using only kosher ingredients so all players, whether religious or not are able to eat together as a team.
We are extremely grateful to our kosher sponsors for their valued support and sponsorship. Thanks to them we can proudly announce that this season we will only serve kosher meals at the Club. We are hopeful that this will encourage the entire community to participate and be involved in our Club and will enable everyone to enjoy all the aspects of it. This generous sponsorship also means that all the players have the opportunity to partake in the team building and club unifying atmosphere we strive to create, one which caters and is inclusive of all; present players, past players and coaches, religious and non religious collectively.
