Rothschild's MACC post-Christmas review
Nathan Rothschild | April 01 2010

NathClub icon Nathan Rothschild has penned, in no particular order, his top 7 moments of the post-Christmas period from the 2009/10 season.

Michael Feiler’s acceptance speech upon receiving the Michael Klinger rising star award

A witty and well worded young man, Michael wowed the audience with his lengthy speech in front of a capacity crowd. Michael’s observation that first eleven cricket was a better standard than what he experienced in the seconds was a great example of his unique analytical skills. Congratulations Michael.

Laurie Shneider’s 4/4 off 16 overs

(It was really 5/4, but the anti Laurie conspiracy in the MCA deprived him of a wicket that was rightfully his)

To say that Laurie bamboozled the opposition is an understatement. With a wily combination of flight, spin and pace variation, Laurie had the opposing batsmen in knots as he did his thing. Don’t worry about the young, fresh and exciting talent coming though, Laurie Shneider is a genuine 20+ wicket a season bowler and is this authors early pick to strip the said young talent of some awards at next seasons presentation. Whilst some say it would be premature to think about next season already, if Laurie receives some luck from the umpires and the opposition fieldsmen, one D. Gelbart will be trembling as Laurie will come hard to take next years Ray Saffer away from him.

(Author’s note: Laurie it was a pleasure fielding at second slip next to you and I greatly enjoyed our conversations on a wide array of topics. There is no doubting your incredible aptitude for the game.)

Nathan Rothschild’s 45 v Canterbury

The best innings ever in any format of cricket. Actually, probably the greatest sporting moment of all time.

David Majtlis’ 124 v MHSOB

Super knock that. Bludgened the Old Boys all over the ground in Dave’s maiden ton for the Jackas.

Jake “The Snake” Jones and Gabe Back V Coles Sharks

Whilst to the impartial onlooker it looked like two little league cricketers had rocked up to the wrong ground, the two pint sized juniors proved very much they belong as they provided great resistance against a much taller attack. The Snake is also hereby declared the number 1 mascot in the MCA. You can receive your high chair and bib from me next season.

Barry Kave’s post Christmas form

Unfortunately Barry missed some pre Christmas cricket due to health issues ranging from colonoscopies, to erectile disfunction, dementia (he has forgotten to retire) and seven hip replacements, including six on his “bowling” hip. Thankfully Big Bad Bustling Barry returned in tiptop form after santa granted him an extended injury free run, imparting his usual words of ingenuity to unsuspecting youngsters.

The Fruit at Presentation Night

Whilst not directly cricket related (although it may explain why his son is a gun), the Organic Fruit generously donated by Steve Klotnick provided one of the sweeter moments in a sometimes bleak year (The fruit was damn good!). So for all those having a read, get down to Passion Foods at South Melbourne Market and see why Steve’s plumbs are the best going around. (He of course sells a wide variety of fruit, but I don’t think he’d like me referring to his grapes quite as much).
