MACC Juniors get a taste of Senior training
Last Thursday saw the first of what the Maccabi AJAX Senior and Junior cricket clubs hope will become a new tradition, when the under 13 players joined in with Senior training at the Gary Smorgon Oval in Albert Park.
In a move hoped to further unite and integrate the Senior and Junior clubs, and a way to encourage Junior players to continue playing for the club when they finish their Junior careers, the committee decided to invite a Junior team deserving of special recognition and on this occasion it was the under 13 side.
The youngsters trained along side their Senior counterparts, giving them valuable insight into the way the seniors train and also privvy to some specialist coaching by club coaches Steve Sandor and Troy Lamb as well as senior committee members Simon Fisher, Brad Majtlis and other experienced players from the leadership group.
The juniors then joined in with the Senior club's fortnightly selection night BBQ, enjoying a kosher hot dog and drink whilst chatting to senior players and 1st XI captain Jono Weinstock.
The highlight for a couple of players was the prizes awarded for their training efforts - a pair of batting gloves and arm guards worn and donated by Michael Klinger.
The initiative was extremely successful with both the Senior and Junior guys enjoying their time together.
Any Senior or past players wishing to assist with coaching or mentoring the Juniors are certainly encouraged to do so, and anybody interested should contact Simon Fisher 0402 495 176.
