Maccabi falter in chase
The Maccabi Ajax cricket club were again left to rue a poor batting display as they were comfortably beaten by Carnegie on Sunday.

Despite beating the visitors just 3 weeks ago, Maccabi proved no match for Carnegie, going down by 81 runs.

After losing the toss and being sent into the field, Maccabi made a strong start to the match on the back of strong opening spells from Simon Fisher (2-31) and Josh Jones (2-32).

Mark Soffer (3-15) was the pick of the bowlers, taking wickets regularly while keeping the scoring rate down.

The home side looked in control of the match at 6-90, but loose bowling allowed Carnegie to fight back to finish their innings on 8-165.

Maccabi struggled from the outset on a slow pitch, suffering an all-too-familiar batting collapse.

Mendi Rosenbaum (19) top scored as Maccabi were skittled for 84 in the 35th over.

The 2nd XI continued their fantastic start to the season, comfortably accounting for Indigos.

Maccabi bowled the visitors out for 84 in an even team performance, but chasing down the total for the loss of just 3 wickets in the 17th over.

The 3rd XI’s winning streak was ended by East Malvern Tooronga. Maccabi posted a competitive 7-167 after electing to bat. Excellent knocks from Urban Alley Player of the round Alon Katz (55) and Ian Ludski (35 not out) helped the side recover from a sluggish start.

The home side were able to reach the target fairly untroubled though, hitting the winning runs with 5 wickets to spare. Katz (2-12) completed a brilliant individual performance to be the only multiple wicket taker.
