Mixed weather brings mixed results

A weekend interrupted by temperamental weather conditions saw the Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club have an even spread of results over the weekend.

After a late change in venue due to unplayable conditions at Albert Park, Maccabi struggled in the early stages as Melbourne Cobras made an aggressive start to their innings.

Simon Fisher (2-32) returned to the side and put in a typically tidy performance to help claw his side back into the contest.

Fellow spinners Mark Soffer (1-30) and Shmuli Rosebaum (1-31) helped keep the scoring rate down in the middle overs, but the Cobras continued to ride their luck with the bat.

Levi Rosenbaum put in another strong showing behind the stumps, despite the Cobras finishing on a formidable 9-223.

Mark Soffer (30) helped get his side off to a strong start in their chase, scoring runs freely.

His dismissal saw a far too familiar sight occur for Maccabi though, with 7 wickets falling in the middle order for just 46 runs.

Bailey Melzak (16), Josh Jones (16) and Ben Machlin (13 not out) made contributions late in the innings but it wasn’t enough, as the side was dismissed for 131.

The 2nd XI looked to be on track for another victory before rain intervened in their clash with Sacred Heart.

In a reduced overs match, Dov Paltiel (57) continued his strong start to the season to help his side to 8-130, before storms resulted in the match being abandoned.

The 3rd XI continued their perfect start to the season, recording their 3rd successive victory.

Batting first, Sam Brygel (72) continued his rich vein of form to help his post a competitive 8-200. He received valuable support from Alon Esterman (38), Amir Meyerowitz (26) and Alon Katz (20).

Ian ludski (3-20) and Barry Kave (2-21) were the multiple wicket takers in a strong all-round team performance as Maccabi dismissed Carnegie for 119.
